PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
